  1. In case of cancellation, does the company provide accommodation/transfers/insurance?
    The Company reserves the right to delay, cancel or reroute the sailing of the vessel without prior notice whether on the outbound or inbound journey, if this is required for safety or technical reasons or due to force majeure. In the event of cancellations, the Company shall refund the unutilized portion of the ticket but shall in no circumstances whatsoever be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage caused thereby and will not accept any claim to reimburse any supplementary expenses.
  2. Is it cheaper to book on line?
    Prices are the same for tickets booked and paid for on-line or through a travel agent in possession of Virtu Ferries’ ticket stock.
  3. How can I book?
    Bookings may be made via telephone on 22069022, by email to res@virtuferries.com, or by using our website on-line reservation system (please click on the “bookings” tab at the top of the page. The page will help you go through the reservation details.
  4. How long before departure do I need to be at the port for check in?
    Check-in time for passengers with vehicles is 1 ½ hours prior to departure time. Passengers travelling on foot should check-in at least 1 hour before departure time. Please be at the terminal at least 1 hour before the scheduled sailing time, and even earlier during busy periods. We do not recommend that you purchase your ticket from our departure office at the last minute, especially during the high season.
  5. How long before do I have to book passengers and vehicles?
    We strongly suggest you book in advance in order to avoid any disappointments as space on the ferry is limited. Bookings are accepted subject to availability only.
  6. When should I collect/pay for the tickets?
    Unpaid reservations will be cancelled unless payment is received within 48hrs. Bookings made within 3 days prior the day of departure, must be paid on the same day that the booking has been made. Bookings that have not been paid within the time limit are cancelled without prior notice. Online bookings are to be paid immediately.
  7. What is the distance between ….?
    The distance between Malta and Pozzallo is 50 nautical miles. The distance between Pozzallo and Catania is 112Km. The distance between Pozzallo and Palermo is 160Km. The distance between Catania and Palermo is 193Km
  8. Can I stay in the car during the crossing?
    Due to safety reasons passengers are not allowed in the garage during the crossing.
  9. Do you provide assistance for disabled passengers and do they have accessibility onboard?
    The ferry is equipped with ramps and a lift in order to make it accessible to disabled passengers. The ship is also equipped with a toilet for the disabled.
  10. Can I depart from one port and return to another (e.g. depart from Pozzallo and return to Catania)?
    Yes this is possible. This year we have scheduled ferry trips to Pozzallo Port and offer coach transfers to/from the Port of Catania in Sicily on selected trips only. All trips leave and arrive at Malta at the Virtu Passenger Terminal, Xatt il-Ghassara tal-Gheneb, Marsa. The trip takes approximately 90 minutes to Pozzallo.
  11. Do you do one day excursions?
    We organize one day excursions to Sicily visiting Mt. Etna and Taormina in Spring/Summer, and to Mt. Etna and Modica in Autumn/Winter. We also organise one day excursions from Sicily to Malta in the Spring/Summer. You can find full details on these excursions by clicking the “Excursions” button on the top of our website.

  13. What is your smoking policy?
    Smoking is not permitted in the interior areas of Virtu Ferries’ vessels. Smoking is allowed only outside, on the decks behind the Club Class lounge and lower salon, in the designated areas (weather permitting.)
  14. May I travel with my pet?
    Passengers must declare pets at booking stage and ensure that pets have a valid pet passport together with all the necessary vaccination certificates and all other documents. Upon boarding passengers must also notify vessel’s crew that they are carrying pets. Pets must be kept inside the car with open windows or in a leak proof cage inside the garage of the vessel. Cages to be provided by pet owners. Pets not travelling in cars and without a cage will be refused boarding.Small pets (cats and dogs only) carried in an appropriate leak proof pet cage with a maximum weight, including cage, of 9 kilos and of maximum size 48 cms x 35 cms x 35 cms may be placed, at a charge, on the outside passenger deck in the area allocated for pets. Pets on the outside passenger deck must be accompanied by the owner throughout the voyage and at no time are pets allowed outside their cage. Carriage of pets on the outside passenger deck is at the discretion of the Master. In case of inclement weather pets will not be allowed on the outside passenger deck and must travel in the garage. Pets are not allowed in the passenger salons or in any of the passenger common areas.  The Company reserves the right to refuse boarding of pets on both the outside decks and garage deck on any given voyage.At the discretion of the Master, passengers may be allowed to visit their pets in the garage during the voyage and will be accompanied by a crew member. The owner is to ensure that the pet is fit for travel also keeping in mind the possibility of inclement weather. The Company is not responsible for the well being of the pet, transportation of pets is at owner’s risk and responsibility.  For further inquiries regarding pets traveling to or from Malta, kindly visit the Veterinary Regulation Directorate on http://agriculture.gov.mt/en/vprd/Pages/travel_petmalta.aspx and follow the procedure indicated.   15. How old do you have to be to travel alone? 

    Children under 12 years of age cannot travel unaccompanied. Parents/guardians are kindly asked to fill the unaccompanied minors travelling form for unaccompanied minors aged 12 to under 18 years of age. The form must be presented at the check-in desk prior departure.

  16. Does the vehicle tariff include the driver? 

    No, the vehicle tariff does not include the driver’s ticket. Therefore, the passenger rate needs to be added to the vehicle tariff.
